What is stress?
Stress is a normal physical response to events or thoughts that make you feel threatened OR upset your balance in some way.
What is anxiety?
Anxiety is when these stressed anxious feelings don't subside & are ongoing. They can range from feeling uneasy & worried to severe panic.
What does too much stress look like?
Too much stress impacts our emotions and we can display signs of Irritability or have a short fuse. We can also be moody, agitated, overwhelmed, lonely, isolated and unhappy.
We also have physical signs of stress including aches/pains, diarrhoea/constipation, nausea, dizziness, palpitations/chest pain, skin rashes, frequent infections, and loss of drive.
Our cognitive function (thinking ability) is also impacted with signs such as memory problems, reduced concentration, negativity, constant worry, anxiety/racing thoughts and poor judgement
Stress impacts our bahaviour and we eat more or less, have trouble getting to sleep or staying asleep, we isolate ourselves and don't feel like socialising, we procrastinate, display nervous habits and misuse alcohol.
These are a few of the signs and symptoms of stress and anxiety. They are individual with some people displaying some of the symptoms. This makes it hard to know if stress is a problem. After all, a little bit of stress is beneficial to use and helps us to achieve. So knowing that "tipping point" when good stress goes bad is important and unique to each individual.
